Like moving to a new city

Ever moved to a new city? The first thing you usually need to do is register with the city office. That’s what it’s like when you join the Catena-X dataspace: you first go to Cofinity-X to get registered. Watch a video that explores this city analogy a bit further.

The process is simple. Basically, there are three steps as you move from newcomer to active citizen. The whole process can take anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks. We are here to support you in every step!

Step 1: Get your BPN

As part of the registration for Catena-X, we will provide you with the crucial Business Partner Number (BPN). It is like your unique address in the dataspace. You will need this in order to be found and do business with partners. It also means other members know exactly who they are dealing with. That builds trust.

Step 2: Get connected

In order to exchange data with other members, you will then need a connector, which is something like a smart mailbox. This is made possible with a so-called Eclipse Dataspace Components (EDC) connector, included in Dataspace OS by Cofinity-X. Once you have it set up, we’ll also help you exchange test data, just to make sure everything is working as it should.

Step 3: Explore the marketplace

One you have set up shop in Catena-X, there are a number of ways you can add value to the experience. This is where the Cofinity-X marketplace comes in. Explore apps and services by Cofinity-X and other vendors to help you get the most out of the dataspace.

How much does it cost?

The cost of registering and getting started in Catena-X will depend on your company’s size and how many partners you want to exchange data with. What is Catena-X?

Catena-X is a non-commercial association founded with the goal to improve data exchange across the entire automotive value chain. As a kind of “decentralized database”, it brings together manufacturers, suppliers and service providers, allowing them to exchange data according to independently defined standards and rules. The goal is to improve collaboration, transparency and efficiency by using shared standards and secure technology.
